Our Purpose

We exist so people from all walks of life can experience and live out the hope of Jesus.

The heartbeat of Calvary for nearly 100 years has been to contribute to making the Sussex area a better place. We love Jesus, we love our community, and we love you.

In a world full of hopelessness and despair, God uses the church to provide hope to the world. More than just a group to join, church is a family of people who gather for one common goal: to celebrate the goodness of God.

At Calvary, you’ll not only connect with the God who loves you, but you’ll be encouraged and challenged to grow… In your relationship with God, in your relationship with others, and as a person.

A Letter from the Pastor

Deep down, every one of us is searching for meaning in our lives. One pastor said it like this: “The two most important days of your life are 1. The day you were born, and 2. The day you find out why.”

Sometimes, we lose track of the things that really bring purpose to our lives. If you find yourself wondering why you exist, or what the meaning of all of the achievements of life really is… The truth is found in Jesus Christ.

The Bible tells us that God works out His purpose in each one of our lives. If deep down in your soul, you feel a lack of purpose or direction, tbat’s a sign that you are searching for the Creator that has a purpose for your life.

We hope you’ll give us a chance to point you in the right direction – God loves you more than you could ever imagine, and He wants you to know what it means to have a relationship with Him! We would love to chat with your more about that. Please reach out if you’d like to chat!

With love,

Pastor Daniel & Jessica Leavitt

Our Beliefs

The Bible

We believe in the verbal inspiration of the Holy Scriptures; the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God. In them we find the final authority for all Christian faith and practices.

1 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 1 Peter 1:23-25

God

We believe the existence of one true God, who has revealed Himself to the world as the Father, as the Son, and as the Holy Spirit.

Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Timothy 3:16; Luke 3:22

Jesus
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God, truly God and truly man, who was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We believe in the visible, personal, and glorious return of Jesus Christ the “Blessed Hope” of the church.

Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; John 1:1,14; Acts 1:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit who has been sent into this age to glorify Jesus Christ, regenerate, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living and service. We believe the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for all believers as a definite enduement of power for service and is subsequent to, and separate from, Salvation.

1 Thessalonians 4:3; 1 John 2:29; Romans 8:5; Philippians 2:12; Hebrews 12:14; Joel 2:28; Acts 2:4

Mankind

We believe man was created in the image of God, as recorded in Genesis, but fell into sin and is therefore unable to attain divine righteousness and his condition is one of total depravity.

Romans 5:12; Romans 3:23

Salvation

We believe the gospel of the grace of God, how that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again for our justification, and in repentance from all sin, Salvation by grace, through faith alone in the perfect and sufficient work of Christ on our behalf upon the cross of Calvary, excluding all human merit.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 3:24; Ephesians 2:5-8

Baptism

We believe in water baptism by full immersion in the name of our Lord Jesus and that water baptism is a public declaration of our faith in Jesus Christ.

Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38

Communion

We believe in the ordinance of communion as commanded by Christ, and that all true believers should share in this sacred memorial service.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

Satan

We believe in the reality of Satan and the ministry of holy angels.

1 Peter 5:8; Hebrews 1:13-14

Ressurection

We believe there will be a bodily resurrection of all the dead, of the believers to everlasting blessedness and the unbeliever to eternal punishment.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Our Code

Built on the Word

The Bible is food for our soul, is light for our path, gives purpose for our lives, and is our weapon in battle.

Filled with Power

All we do is through God’s strength! We desire to be emptied of ourselves and filled with the Holy Spirit everyday! Prayer is our connection to God’s power.

On Mission

We are unapologetic about our mission- the mission of Jesus! We will do everything we can to allow people, from all walks of life, to experience and live out the hope of Jesus!

Undivided

We are united in our mission. We stand shoulder-to-shoulder, focus fixed, always remembering who our real enemy is. We share the credit in victory and the responsibility in defeat.

Unoffendable

We will not allow the bait of offence to be a distraction from the mission. We will come to the table of truth often and never allow personal disagreement to become division.

Always honouring

One of the greatest ways we show love is by honouring one another. Therefore, we look for ways to honour up, honour down, and honour all around!

Outrageously Generous

Everything that we have and every breath that we breathe is a gift from God. Out of His limitless supply, we look for every opportunity to be outrageously generous.

For the Glory and Honour of Our King, Jesus!

It is all for Jesus! He gave everything for us! We will give our all to Him!
